IS IT TIME FOR NEW TIRES?

You need to answer this question before hitting the streets of Edmonton. You and your family’s safety depends on it. Here are some warning signs to look for that could indicate the need for new tires:

Performance issues

Performance issues like steering, handling, braking, noise. if you experience any of these, see your mechanic to find out if there’s a mechanical issue or if you need new tires.

Your Tires Are Too Old

Your tires are getting close to 5 years old. If so, have them inspected regularly by a mechanic, regardless of the mileage warranty. Once your tires reach five years old, depending on how much driving you do, it may be time to replace them.

Tread is worn down

If you insert a quarter upside-down into a tire groove and can see the Queen’s crown on the coin, you’re looking at a need to replace your tires.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING TIRES

Before you can get a quote on tire prices, you’ll need to know the following information:

Tire Size

You can find the manufacturer’s recommended tire size for your vehicle in your manual or on the placard inside the door jamb of the driver’s side. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s specifications as tire size affects your vehicle’s safety, speedometer reading, fuel efficiency, braking, etc. If your manufacturer made your vehicle to fit more than one size, the size you choose should be based on your typical driving habits and road conditions and how you use your vehicle, among other factors. Contact us if you need help deciding on the best tire size for you.

Tire Type

Your choices will generally be All-Season tires, All-Weather tires or Winter tires. Check out our Winter Tires in Edmonton page for more information on each type.

Load Rating

This is the maximum amount of weight each tire can handle safely. If you use your vehicle to transport heavy objects regularly, go with the higher number.

Speed Rating

As the name suggests, different tires are made to perform better at higher speeds. Choose a minimum speed rating of your vehicle’s top speed. If you drive a performance vehicle, you’ll need a higher speed rating.

Warranty

The length of a tire’s warranty will give you an idea of the quality of the tire. Usually, the longer the warranty the higher the quality, which means a higher price.

5 TIPS FOR SAVING MONEY ON TIRES

Here are five suggestions that could potentially save you hundreds of dollars on tires:

Look online

You’re probably saying to yourself, “of course they’d say that”. But we’ve sold tires in retail stores throughout Edmonton for over 40 years, so we know that by selling them online, we can get the same tires at lower prices, which allows us to pass the savings on to you.

Wait for sales

Usually around April, October, and the holidays are when you’ll find tires on sale. It’s also not a bad idea to look for discounted tires off-season as well.

Take advantage of rebates

Sales are not the same as rebates. They’re similar, but rebates are manufacturer-specific and can happen at any time. For rebates on the top tire brands, check out our Offerspage.

Buy more than one tire at a time

It’s never a good idea to buy just one tire for safety reasons. The least you should buy is two tires at a time. Not only is it safer and better for your vehicle to do so, but usually the more tires you buy, the less you pay per tire - especially when it comes to rebates.

Don’t wait until the last minute

The last thing you want is to drive on unsafe tires so waiting until you have no choice but to change your tires means you’ll have to pay whatever the going rate is, regardless of the price or value for your money. If you follow our previous tips, you’ll have great quality tires that you bought at the best price ready when you need them.
