Cooper Tires was originally founded as the M and M Manufacturing Company in Akron, Ohio in 1914. What started as a business producing tire patches, cement and tire repair kits, slowly evolved into the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in 1946 after formerly having been the Master Tire and Rubber Company that had formed in 1930. It was bought by Goodyear Tire and Rubber in 2021.

Cooper tires are known for their reliability and performance and are the original equipment tires for auto manufacturers Ford, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.

Let’s take a look at three Cooper Tire models you’ll commonly find on the road, the CS5 Ultra Touring, the Evolution Tour and the Discoverer EnduraMax.

Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring

For sedans, coupes, minivans, crossovers and SUVs, the CS5 Ultra Touring tire aims to combine performance with a comfortable ride. It’s an all-season tire designed for all weather and road conditions up to and including light snow.

Some of the benefits of the Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring tire:

  • Silica-enhanced tread for responsiveness in a wide variety of temperature and road conditions.
  • StabilEdge Performance technology which firms the tire up during high-speed cornering by interlocking the independent tread blocks.
  • 3D Micro-Gauge sipes that further enhance stability and traction in bad weather and road conditions.
  • Broad outboard shoulder blocks increase lateral traction.
  • Cooper’s Wear Square technology that shows you instantly see the amount of wear on the tire and how much longer until it needs to be replaced.

Cooper Evolution Tour

Designed with the everyday driver in mind, the Cooper Evolution fit sedans, minivans, CUVs and SUVs with an all-season tire that offers a combination of performance, comfort and safety.

As an all-season tire, the Evolution Tour can handle a variety of wet and dry road conditions but is not recommended for winter driving in areas with significant snow and ice.

The Cooper Evolution Tour features:

  • All-season compound that retains flexibility in both hot and cold temperatures.
  • A symmetric tread pattern for more convenient tire rotation.
  • Open shoulder notches and circumferential grooves that push water and slush out from underneath the contact patch to reduce hydroplaning.
  • Cooper StabilEdge technology that, together with the centre and intermediate ribs, deliver stability and agile handling.
  • 3D Micro-Gauge sipes that help the Evolution Tour keep an optimal shape during braking, accelerating and cornering.

Cooper Discoverer EnduraMax

The Discoverer EnduraMax is built with the rugged construction of a tire expected to rise to the challenge of the harshest road and weather conditions while seamlessly translating that responsiveness to smooth city driving.

Designed for SUVs, pickup trucks and crossover vehicles, here are some of the benefits of the Discoverer EnduraMax:

  • Industry rated for severe weather conditions with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol.
  • Winter Grip technology that features sawtooth grooves made to bite into snow and ice and zigzag shoulder siping for traction on wet roads.
  • Cooper’s Durable Tread technology made to withstand cuts and abrasions common in off-road driving.
  • A symmetric tread pattern that focuses on reducing road noise.
  • Wide circumferential grooves to flush out water and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
  • Enduraguard design that helps the tire retain its shape on uneven surfaces.
  • Armour Belt technology with internal steel belts similar to the ones found in off-road tires.
